Our physicians specialize in a full range of adult and pediatric eye care treatments. Our facilities are complemented by modern ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and treatment technology. An integrated component of Paul Phillips Eye & Surgery Center are our on-site Optical Shops which allows the physician to work directly with the optician to meet the needs of every patient.

  • Paul Phillips, M.D.

    Physician

    attended the University of Rochester where he studied optical engineering and went on to medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His internship was performed at Brown University in Rhode Island and his ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College. He continued his academic pursuits at the University of Pennsylvania, Scheie Eye Institute, as an attendant in the residency teaching program. He joined the staff at Hunterdon Medical Center and Kurz Eye Associates in 1991, and became Principle of Flemington Eye & Refractive Surgery Center in 1994. Presently, Dr. Phillips oversees Paul Phillips Eye & Surgery Center, a growing multi-specialty practice. His present focus is on comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Phillips is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Medical Association.

  • Ritika Bakhru, M.D.

    Physician

    received her undergraduate degree from Villanova University as part of an accelerated B.S./M.D. program. She then completed her medical training at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Bakhru did her first year of internal medicine internship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and then she continued on to finish her residency in Ophthalmology at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Bakhru is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and she is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Her focus is on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery.

  • teven J. Faigenbaum, M.D.

    Physician

    Received his undergraduate and M.D. degrees at the University of Buffalo, New York (Magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). He completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York as well as a residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Faigenbaum then spent 2 years active duty with the USNR Medical Corps at the rank of Lieutenant Commander serving as an ophthalmologist at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. Dr. Faigenbaum is Medical Director at Paul Phillips Eye & Surgery Center. His present focus is on comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Dr. Faigenbaum is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

  • Joan Lee, D.O.

    Physician

    received her undergraduate bachelor of science degree from The College of New Jersey. She went on to complete her medical training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry School of Osteopathic Medicine. Her internship and residency training was completed at Geisinger Medical Center where she served as chief resident. Following residency, she went on to train with Dr. C. Stephen Foster and completed a fellowship in Uveitis at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution. Dr. Lee is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a member of the American Uveitis Society.

  • Jay M. Bernstein, M.D.

    Pediatric Ophthalmologist

    graduated from Alfred University in 1975, and Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1980. His ophthalmology residency was performed at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. After residency, he went on to Moorefield Eye Hospital in London for sub-specialty training (fellowship) in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He has been in practice for nearly two decades, specializing in all aspects of pediatric eye care, pediatric and adult strabismus surgery and BOTOX® injection treatment for strabismus. Dr. Bernstein is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He was a member of the executive board of the American Academy of Pediatrics' section of Ophthalmology.

  • Kenneth Morgenstern, M.D.

    obtained his undergraduate degree from Emory University. He received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University where he also trained in General Surgery. He was recognized as the Intern of the Year and was awarded the Distinguished Physician Humanitarian Award from the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He went on to further train in Ophthalmology at West Virginia University where he served as the Chief Resident. Dr. Morgenstern was then awarded a Fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at The Ohio State University. He completed his training with subsequent Fellowships in Facial Cosmetic Surgery, Pediatric Oculoplastic Surgery, and Cranial Facial Surgery. Dr. Morgenstern is board certified and performs adult and pediatric oculoplastic surgery and facial cosmetic surgery. He is one of the few surgeons in the world to have gained certification by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is the active director of oculoplastics at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, and an integral part of the fellowship teaching staff at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania.

    Vitreoretinal specialist. She is a graduate of the Jefferson Medical College. Her ophthalmology residency was performed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Veterans Administration Hospital, after which, she attended Boston University Medical Center and Veterans Administration Hospital for retina fellowship. Dr. Shah is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the New Jersey Retina Society and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.

  • Ryan Hoffman, O.D.

    Optometrist

    Optometric physician who received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. While majoring in the biological sciences he served as a teaching assistant, tutoring physics in laboratory and classroom settings. After graduation, Dr. Hoffman worked as an ophthalmic technician at the Paul Phillips Eye and Surgery Center before attending and graduating from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Hoffman received externship training in ophthalmic disease at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, Fenway Health Eye Clinic, and OMNI Eye Services in New York and New Jersey. He also received externship training in contact lenses and primary eye care at The Eye Institute of Salus University. Dr. Hoffman is a member of the American Optometric Association.

  • Sarah Lapicki, O.D.

    optometric physician who attended Dickinson College where she received a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and Biology. She completed her Masters of Biomedical Sciences studies at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey before attending the State College of New York College of Optometry, where she received her Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. Lapicki’s training included externships in Ocular Disease and Management at the Lyons Veteran Administration Hospital in Lyons, NJ and OMNI Eye Services, Iselin, NJ; and in Cornea and Anterior Segment at the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute, Teaneck, NJ. Dr. Lapicki also received internship training in pediatrics and low vision at the University Eye Center in Manhattan. Dr. Lapicki is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians.

  • Jason Munitz, O.D

    Optometrist

    Is an optometric physician who has been practicing in New Jersey for more than 10 years. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he received honors for his clinical work. He joined Flemington Eye & Refractive Surgery Center in 2000, and has since joined with Dr. Paul Phillips. His primary practice focus is on medical management of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, uveitis and dry eye syndrome. He also has extensive experience in the pre and post-operative care of many ocular surgeries, including LASIK surgery. Dr. Munitz also specializes in the latest technology in contact lens fitting. Dr. Munitz is board certified in the American Board of Optometry. He is also a current member of the American Optometric Association, the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, and the Optometric Council on Refractive Technology.
